Understanding Pre-Existing Condition Coverage
Pre-existing conditions are health issues that existed before purchasing the insurance policy. Most super visa insurance providers define a “stability period” — typically 90 to 180 days — during which the condition must have been stable (no changes in medication, no hospitalizations, no new symptoms) for coverage to apply.
What Counts as “Stable”?
- No change in medication type or dosage
- No new diagnosis related to the condition
- No hospitalization or new treatment
- No new symptoms or worsening of existing symptoms
Why Pre-Existing Coverage Matters
Without pre-existing condition coverage, any medical emergency related to a pre-existing condition would be entirely out-of-pocket. Hospital stays in Canada can cost $3,000–$10,000+ per day, making this coverage critical for visitors with chronic conditions.
